General Info
Spectacular fan palms prized for their large, heavy crown of blue-green leaves.
Botanical Features
Form: A large majestic fan palm, capable of growing up to 20-30 m tall with a crown spread of 6-8 m.
Leaf: Large, silvery to blue-green, palmately shaped fronds. Rigid and can grow up to an impressive 3 m across in size.
Flower: Dioe-cious. The long inflorescences consist of small white flowers.
Fruit: Round, plum-like, speckled brown in colour. 3-4 cm in size, and borne in huge clusters on the female palms .
Trunk: Single-stemmed grey trunk that is free from petiole bases.
Points of Interest
Bismarckia is a monotypic palm genus that is endemic to Madagascar. It was named after Prince Otto Von Bismarck, the first German Chanellor.
Due to their large sizes, Bismarck Palms are not suitable for small areas, but their dramatic presence markes them excellent focal points for large parks or gardens.
